On June 20, the yearly SUMMA student symposium took place. SUMMA stands for Selective Utrecht Medical Masters and is meant for student who want to become both a doctor and a researcher.
This year’s theme was The Fountain of Youth and in that context, René spoke about Aging brain networks. Interestingly, brain aging is not only about slowing down of neuronal processes and neurodegeneration. The brain remains plastic up until old age, and in diseases such as Alzheimer’s, the early phases may actually involve neuronal over activity.
It was an fun session with lots of questions from the audience and an interesting discussion.
